Service center (Day Program)

The Veterans Place Service Center is one of twenty-four GPD Service Centers in the country and the only drop-in Service Center for displaced Veterans in the Western Pennsylvania region. Five days a week, displaced Veterans are transported from shelters across the Pittsburgh region to the Veterans Place Service Center on Washington Boulevard Pittsburgh, Pa; where they are provided meals, clothing, case management, health-related referrals, employment assistance and other services designed to address the root causes of housing instability, including substance-use disorders (SUD) and mental illness.

VFR (Veterans For Recovery Program)

24/7 Recovery program offers Evaluation, Assessment, a strict program with rules and expectations. During the initial 90-day program there will be a uniform provided. Clients will sign a contract understanding rules. A complete Detox Plan, In-Patient/Residential Planning (We will only offer a “In Patient 90 Day Plan”), Group (CBT, ACT, Duel Recovery, Mindfulness, Motivational Groups, Recovery Matrix, Personal Toolbox, Relapse Prevention, Relationships and Emotions, Seeking Safety, Stress Management, Transitions Group, PTSD, Addictive Behavior, Existential Investigation, Internal vs External Reality, Triggers, and NA/AA), Aftercare (After completion of 1 month Program) (2 Month Phase 1 Transitional Care) (6 Month Phase 2 Transitional Care) (3 Month Phase 3 Discharge Planning). VFR uses GREEN LEEF Online Recovery Database. They have their own on-site Transitional Housing: Highly coveted housing option for individuals who have completed the 24/7 program. Alternative houses for people in need of transitional housing (Our version of ¾ Housing) Each person must be participating in our family and community reintegration center. “Classes, volunteerism and personal growth/development” *Until Phase 2, these two groups need to be separated* Phase by phase transition. (Phase 1: No leaving campus, weekend visiting hours and weekly drug testing) (Phase 2: Passes for outside meetings, job interviews and special occasions. Weekend Day Passes, NO OVERNIGHT Bi Weekly Drug Testing) (Phase 3: Planning for community reintegration. Job Searching. Housing Options. Overnight passes on weekends with follow up drug screen). VFR has a complete Alternative Holistic Center offering Massage Therapy (2x Per Week, 20 minute session) Have massage schools volunteer students*, Cupping, Acupuncture/pressure, Reiki. CBD Oil Both oral and in cream form. They have alternative medicine professionals such as Chiropractic, aquatic therapy, & physical therapy available onsite as well as a Gymnasium for yoga, palates, exercise. An outside basketball court, and a beautiful garden area for mindfulness meditation and guided spiritual walks.

They also have an onsite Clubhouse for Family and Community Reintegration services.

Low Income Veterans and Families Assistance Programs

This Program helps veterans and their families ensure that they are able to meet their basic needs and avoid hunger, homelessness, and financial crises. The overarching goal of the program is to increase household income and stability through job placement, training, networking and connection to resources. Supportive service are provided to assure a 360-degree approach of comprehensive care to those in need.

Operation Sunshine

BLAST Foundation specifically supports female veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless because of domestic violence, PTSD, and physical health issues, and/or financial strain. Helping to address abuse and PTSD issues and connecting female veterans to counseling, support, and safety while giving them the dignity and respect they deserve as human beings and as soldiers that have fought for our freedom.

Food Bank

Veterans Place has a food-bank in partnership through Greater Pittsburgh community food-bank. Any veteran cans stop by for food Mondays and Fridays.

Computer Lab

An onsite computer lab & training classes that any veteran resident of BLAST programs can access daily 8am- 3pm in the main center.
